Have You Ever Considered Volunteer Opportunities For Your Act Students? or A blog about taking your children to musicals and plays.

It’s not just my kids that love being part of the Main Street Theater. My daughter has had the privilege to be able to “work” alongside many of our incredible actors and actresses. Whether it’s working backstage, running lights, or ushering patrons, she is always excited when she gets the chance to volunteer for a show.

You’ll probably find me working in the lobby at any given performance at the Main Street Theater. I’ve met so many incredible people through this organization and it has been a thrill watching the performances with my family over the past 10 years.

Have You Ever Considered Volunteer Opportunities For Your ACT Students?

It’s no secret that I am a huge advocate of volunteering, especially when it comes to youth. But what if you have a student with a busy schedule, who also happens to have an interest in the performing arts?

Below is an opportunity for those students who are interested in working with a nonprofit theatre company. This opportunity has been brought to my attention from an ACT member, and I wanted to share it since I think it would be a wonderful way for your students to get involved!

From Diane: “I’m on the board of directors at Main Street Performing Arts Center (MSPAC) and we’d be happy to welcome any teens who’d like to volunteer. Check out our website at mainstreetpac.org. We work with kids 3-18 years old so there’s lots of opportunities.”

Thank you Diane for bringing this opportunity to my attention!

One of the best things about getting involved with the Main Street Performing Arts Center is that you get the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. As a volunteer, you will be able to meet and work with some very interesting people…

MAIN STREET PERFORMING ARTS CENTER is proud to offer several options for volunteers:

Ushers: Ushers are the first people patrons see when they enter our theatre. Ushering is a way to support local theatre arts and make new friends! You can volunteer as often or as seldom as your schedule allows. We do ask that you commit to ushering at least 5 performances in each show.

Box Office: Volunteers will help with ticket sales (by phone, in person, etc…) and assist patrons with questions they may have regarding upcoming performances or community events.

The Main Street Performing Arts Center is a place to discover the joy of performing arts. Whatever your age, whatever your interest, there’s something for everyone at the MS PAC.

The MS PAC is a state-of-the-art facility featuring a 1,000 seat theater, two 80 seat black box theaters and a recording studio. The center hosts a variety of music groups, plays, musicals and other performances in addition to hundreds of classes each year.

Our mission is to provide an environment that inspires people and enriches the community through the performing arts while embracing all art forms and fostering creativity. We are committed to providing quality education and entertainment in an accessible venue that encourages collaboration between artists, educators and the community.

How to Write a Great Theater Resume

by: Janice Pendarvis

Theater resumes are different from other types of job resumes. Because the purpose of a theater resume is to get you an audition and not a job, it doesn’t follow the same rules. Regardless of whether you’re a beginner or have years of experience, your resume should highlight your achievements and include all of your training.

Your Headshot and Resume

Include an 8×10 inch black and white headshot with your resume. On the back of the headshot, write your name in dark pencil. Make sure that you’re centered in the picture and looking directly at the camera with a pleasant expression on your face. Don’t wear too much makeup, but do make sure that you look professional. If you wear glasses for everyday wear, consider wearing contacts for your headshot; otherwise, remove them for the photo. Include a stapled copy of this same headshot with any resumes that you mail out to casting directors. Don’t forget to include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want them to send your headshot back!

Size and Paper

If you have an agent, ask him or her what size paper he or she prefers for their actors’ resumes.

The Main Street Performing Arts Center is a non-profit theatrical production company located in Muncie, Indiana. Our mission is to provide a high-quality performing arts experience for the entire community and to provide opportunities for young people to gain experience in the theatre arts.

We value the contributions of all community members, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or any other characteristics. We are committed to making our productions accessible to everyone and welcome input from all members of the community.
