Lebo M is globally recognised for his role in bringing African music to the world – as a composer, producer and performer. An Oscar nominee and Grammy winner, he has left an indelible mark on the music industry.

At the launch of Lebo M’s upcoming Cape Town show late last year, the musician was critical of the government, saying that despite the country’s 30 years of democracy, the arts and entertainment industry remains disrespected and disadvantaged.

“ I’m very conscious of 30 years of the new dispensation. I’m often very reluctant to say democracy or any of that. I think it’s the most disrespected [industry]. Artists have proven over and over again without resources, without governmental support and business because it’s not just government alone. I don’t think there’s much to celebrate yet,”

Despite his criticism, Lebo M remains optimistic about his upcoming performance in Cape Town. He has been busy preparing for the event, hosting Film & Music Workshops at the Artscape Theatre Centre and collaborating with renowned musicians such as Hans Zimmer.
