Street Performing is one of the most rewarding jobs that I have ever had. It’s also one of the most lucrative and challenging.

Street performance also known as busking, is a form of live entertainment on street corners, in public parks or inside subway stations.

While living in San Francisco for the past 4 years, I have performed all over the city and even out of state. In today’s post I’ll share with you 11 reasons to try street performing!

1. Street Performing is a great way to meet new people, network and make friends.

2. In most cases you can play when you want and as much as you want. I think this is a huge benefit. I know it’s not the case in every city but here in San Francisco we have this freedom and I love it.

3. No boss to answer to! You are your own boss and thus you simply need to answer to yourself. If that’s not a great reason to do street performing then I don’t know what is 🙂

4. It’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. I think this is always important in life and even though it can be tough at times, we should always seek out new experiences.

5. Street Performing helps you develop social skills, especially if you are an introvert like me! 🙂

6. It’s a great way to earn extra cash on the side and make money if that’s what your after… or if you’re a full time performer then it’s an obvious reason why you would perform on the street.

1. It’s fun! I still can’t get over how much fun it is to busk. Every time I go out, it feels like an adventure. If the weather is good and the crowd is into my act, it’s like a high that lasts for hours.

2. You don’t need much equipment. The only things you absolutely need are your voice, body, and mind. You also need something to attract people over to you—usually a guitar or other instrument, but sometimes juggling sticks or props of some kind will do the trick.

3. You can make money doing something you love. Some people will tell you street performing isn’t a good way to make money because they tried it and they didn’t have any luck with it. But if you truly love singing and entertaining people, then you are more likely to stick with it long enough to get good at it and earn some cash from your efforts.

4. Your overhead is low. The only thing you really need to spend money on is equipment (and clothes and shoes if you want to look nice). Other than that, there are no rentals or fees involved in busking—it’s just a matter of showing
