Did You Know: The Main Street performing arts center has been around for over 50 years?
The Main Street Center has been around since the 1960s, and was originally called the Main Street Theater. It was one of the first theaters in the country to be integrated. It is a non-profit theater which is run by volunteers, and it is also home to a lot of different performing arts groups. A few of these groups include the Grace Notes women’s chorus and the Northern Lights Symphony Orchestra. They put on a number of plays each year including musicals and dramas. They have also held other events like art shows, concerts, and even weddings.
The theater itself has two floors and seating for about 500 people. There is a lobby where you can buy snacks or drinks before or after the show as well as an elevator if you need it (which we did once). There are two sets of restrooms outside of that area on either side of the building which are open 24 hours a day seven days per week.

Main Street has been an innovator in the performing arts since way back in 1981. THATS OVER 50 YEARS! When we first opened our doors there was no competition. We were the only game in town and people had to come to us for entertainment. There is a whole generation of people who have grown up and seen performances here.
We have changed with the times and every year we try and bring something new to our audience. It can be said that we are one of the best kept secrets in town but if you ask any of our patrons they will rave about how wonderful their experience was here at the center.
So, come check us out and see what all the fuss is about!
Did you know: The Main Street performing arts center has been around for over 50 years?
Perhaps you’ve seen or heard about the Main Street performing arts center. Maybe you even enjoy seeing movies there on a regular basis, like I do. But do you know the history behind it?
The Main Street performing arts center has been in existence since 1958 and is one of the longest running businesses in town. It was founded by Mr. Alan Robertson, who had a vision to create an entertainment venue that could provide movies and live shows for the residents of our city. After decades of success, he eventually decided to pass on ownership to his son, Mr. Alan Robertson II, who still runs the company today.
There is currently more than one location in surrounding communities but none quite as big as this one back home.”
The Main Street Performing Arts Center has been around for over 50 years. We are a non-profit theatre located in the heart of downtown Orlando, Florida. The idea for the center was conceived in 1954 by a group of local artists with the intent to provide affordable live entertainment and art education. Since then, we have grown to be one of the largest performing arts centers in central Florida.
In addition to our main stage performances and summer camps, we also offer art classes throughout the year in both our visual and performing arts studios. We have three classrooms on site that are used by local instructors and teachers to offer classes on everything from painting, drawing, and sculpting, to singing, dancing, and acting. We also rent out our space for special events like weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, etc…
