The following post is a guest contribution from my friend Danny. He’s going to share with us his experience of becoming a street performer.
How To Improve Your Chances Of Becoming A Street Performer
Do you want to make it as a street performer? If you are a musician, comedian, magician or juggler and want to work the streets, then the tour below is for you!
I was surprised at how easy it was to get a street show going. I went out one evening with an acoustic guitar and made £70 in 4 hours. With a few mates we set up a show that we performed many times on the streets of Glasgow.
We became known as The Singing Surprise and performed our act around 100 times over the summer of 2008. We had great fun and made some money too!
Many people dream about becoming a street performer but don’t realize how easy it is to get started. In this article I will tell you everything you need to know about working the streets.
What is your dream job? Do you have any idea at all? If you’re like so many other people, you may never have thought about it. You might have asked yourself questions like “How can I make the most money?” or “What’s the easiest job I can do?”
But really, the only question that matters is this: What would be a job that would allow you to be happy every day when you go to work? Most of your life will be spent at work. Why settle for mediocre happiness? Why not choose a job that could make you ecstatic?
If making people happy sounds like fun to you, then becoming a street performer might be right up your alley! Street performing is an art form as old as human civilization itself.
But what exactly is street performing? It’s pretty much what it sounds like: performing on the street, in front of a live audience. Unlike most art forms, however, it’s a completely free experience for the audience. They are free to stay and watch or walk away at any time.
Street performers come from all walks of life and cover an incredibly wide range of performance styles. Singing, dancing, juggling, magic tricks and visual arts are just a few of the styles that have been used by
The best way to get started as a street performer, is to look at the work of others and try to learn from them.
Watching other buskers and analyzing what makes them successful can have a huge effect on your development as a street performer and will increase your chances of becoming popular.
Watching other performers can be fun, but it will probably have an even greater impact on your performance if you analyze what they do. Try to figure out what they are doing that makes them successful, or alternatively, why they aren’t attracting much attention. Here are some tips for analyzing the work of other buskers:
– What kind of tricks do they perform? Do you recognize any of the tricks? How difficult are these tricks? Are there any tricks you could learn?
– Are the tricks combined in a clever way? Does the combination make sense? Does it create a good flow in the routine?
– How does the performer interact with his audience? Is he funny? Does he speak clearly or is it hard to understand him? Is he able to interact with people who don’t speak English well (or his own language)? Does he use humor that is easily understood by people from all over the world, or does he rely on local humor that only works in
If you love music, it might be interesting for you to learn about street performing. Street performing is a great way for performers and musicians to earn some extra money or even a living. But if you want to become a street performer, there are some things that you have to know first.
Street performing is one of the most common types of busking and it’s probably what you first think of when you hear the word “busker”. In general, these performers play music on the streets, but they can also include mimes, artists, jugglers and more.
Like with all other kinds of busking, street performing is not limited to just one type of location. They can be found in city centers and subway stations all over the world. But also at festivals and fairs or even in shopping malls and foyers.
The best places to perform are always those where people have time to stop and listen, like street corners and market squares. You’ll also find it easier to get an audience in places where many people walk by every day compared to those where they only pass by once in a while.
You can make money as a street performer if you are able to attract an audience and keep them entertained for long
We have all heard of the singers who were discovered while they were performing on the street. It is a romantic notion, and one that many people would love to be able to claim as their own. However, it is not easy to make a career out of performing on the street. First, you have to have talent and drive. Second, you have to find a way to be noticed by the right people in order for your street performance to be successful.
Here are some tips for becoming a successful street performer:
1) Don’t Perform in Just Any Place
You will want to perform where there are other people around – this helps with getting an audience. If you choose a busy city, then you will get more exposure than if you were to perform in a small town or rural area. Even though this may seem counter-productive (after all, wouldn’t those living in rural areas appreciate live entertainment more?), it is not. You need to keep in mind that the exposure from being in a city allows your music or performance skills to be seen by record executives, etc., which is what you want! The point is – don’t waste your time performing where no one else can see it!

My name is T.J. Doyle and I am a singer/songwriter in NYC. I have been performing for over 10 years and have performed at various venues, large and small, with many different types of artists from all over the world.
I have had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, SummerStage, Joe’s Pub and The Bitter End. I have also opened for several major national acts including Joan Osborne, Ani DiFranco and Martin Sexton.
I started my first band in 2000 when I was just 16 years old. We were known as The Pillows and we released one album called “The Pillows”. The album was well received by the press and we went on to play several shows around NYC including a show at CBGB’s in the East Village.
Many people ask me where they should start if they are interested in becoming a street performer. In this article I will discuss what you need to do to get started and how you can find gigs around your city or town.
