A multi-instrumentalist and a multi-talent, David is one of those rare musicians that can play nearly anything you put in front of him. He mainly plays the guitar, piano and saxophone. His musical journey started when he was 3 years old and his father gave him a toy accordion. That’s when his passion for music began to flourish. At age 6, he started playing the saxophone and a year later he also learned how to play the drums. At age 8, he switched over from the accordion to the piano. Since then, he has been dedicated to learning how to play the piano professionally.

He has written many articles on how to teach yourself how to play the piano and other instruments as well. His articles have been featured in well known publications such as “The New York Times” and “The Wall Street Journal”. In addition, David has written several books on how to learn music. They are available online or you can purchase them in bookstores or libraries throughout the world.

I realized, “Hey, I can do this on the street!”

The first time I took my guitar out and played on the street, I was scared. But when you get a few people sitting in front of you, listening to you and giving you some money for it, it’s just an awesome feeling. As a musician, there’s nothing better.

I had a guitar player friend who was playing at Harvard Square and making about $150/hour. I was like, “This is for real.” So I started doing it every day after work. The first year or two I did that, I didn’t tell my family or friends what I was doing. Later they would see me on the Internet; they’d be like, “Oh my god! I didn’t know you could play piano like that!”

My first instrument was drums and then bass guitar. When I was a kid I wanted to be a drummer in a rock band. Then around age 15 or 16 I picked up the bass. My dad had an old classical guitar lying around; he taught me three chords so that we could play together at parties. When I moved out of home at 17, one of the first things I bought myself was an electric guitar.

The other day, I was walking in the city. I passed by a street musician. He was playing three instruments at the same time. He had a guitar around his neck, an accordion on his left side and he was playing the drums with his feet!

I had never seen anything like that before. I stopped for a few minutes to listen to him. A small crowd gathered around him. People were amazed with his talent and they were throwing coins into his hat.

I have no idea what song he played but it was great! The musician was very good at all those instruments and he seemed to enjoy performing in front of the audience.

It must be so cool to be able to play several instruments at the same time! I would love to be able to do that too!
