Merle Collins: A Blog about a touring musician.

Merle Collins is a folk singer and songwriter originally from Detroit who currently tours the world with his band, The Great Unwashed.

Merle Collins is a touring musician who uses the internet to promote himself. So far he has been successful and has put together a blog that is in turn entertaining, informative and useful.

Merle Collins is first of all a musician. He plays the guitar and sings and has put out three albums: “Wanderin’ Tear”, “Ghost of Yesterday” and “Broken Land”. He has been touring for years and does about 150 shows per year.

Merle Collins also keeps a blog called “The Top Buskers”. As you may have guessed, he is one of those people who live on the road and play music, staying in one place only long enough to perform a show. He calls his shows ‘busking’ regardless if they are performed on an actual bus or not.

The Top Buskers blog is part of Merle’s website, which is focused on his music career. The blog contains interesting stories about life ‘on the road’ as well as announcements of upcoming shows. It’s also full of great pictures, quotes, jokes and links to other sites that you might find relevant or simply amusing.

If you want to learn more about Merle Collins – the person – rather than just the musician, this

Merle Collins is a well-known and respected touring musician. Her blog is a must read for anyone who wants to know what it’s like to be a professional entertainer on the road.

Merle has been playing professionally for over 30 years, so when she writes about her experiences, you’d better listen. She talks about the good, the bad, and the ugly of touring life as well as giving tips on how to avoid getting ripped off by promoters. Merle advocates musicians banding together to protect their rights and shows how they can do this by forming their own guilds or unions.

In her latest post, she discusses how musicians can use social media not only to promote themselves but also their communities and causes that they care about.

Hi! I’m Merle Collins, a touring musician, and I’ve been busking for a long time. In fact, I’ve been busking in one form or another since I was just a baby. My mom always loved the music on the radio, and my parents had a great record collection. They would play classical music and read to me when I was really young. I loved it!

I can remember being four years old, having my very own little tape recorder from Radio Shack. I would record songs off the radio and play them back over and over again. When I was five years old, my parents got me a banjo for Christmas. It was an electric banjo that played like an electric guitar — with strings and frets — but it looked like a banjo with tuning pegs instead of tuning keys. It had this little amplifier that you could plug in, so you could play it through your stereo system or through headphones.

Merle writes about his time in Brazil:

“It was an incredible experience to be invited to play in Brazil. The people there are warm and welcoming, and I feel like I made many valuable connections. My hosts were very generous to me; I hope that they allow me to return some day!”

I have been offered a gig doing a live performance on stage in front of 300 people from all over the world (20 countries). It is going to be very much like Last Comic Standing, only with musicians. I am going to get to perform an original song and also do a cover. I am going to need to make these songs sound as good as possible.

I will be able to do whatever I want during my performances. So, I could just sing or play guitar or use looping pedals, but I don’t think that would be very fun. I want you guys to help me figure out the most entertaining act that would involve the least amount of other people, while still being entertaining and unique.

I’m hoping this will give me some exposure and some good footage for my website. The organizers say there will be a professional film crew filming it, so who knows where this might lead? Maybe someone will see it and offer me a singing gig somewhere?

I know you guys have helped me out in the past, so I appreciate all your input!

As I was looking over the list of the top buskers in the world, a few things came to mind.

The first is how few Americans there were on the list. This is a little disconcerting when you consider that as far as I know, this is an American website. It seems to me that most Americans don’t really understand what busking is, and yet there are whole countries whose economies depend on it. In fact, many musicians around the world make more money busking than playing gigs.

Second, I was disappointed by how few women there were on the list. There are some very talented female buskers that could have made this list, but didn’t. Perhaps this is because most of the top buskers on this list come from Europe, where there aren’t as many professional female street performers as we have in America.

Thirdly, what does it take to be a top busker? Is it just about making money or being well known? Or do you have to have a talent for performing music or magic tricks?

The last thing I would like to mention is that most of these top buskers are not famous people. They may be famous among other street performers and fans, but they aren’t household names like Bruce Springton
