The opening night of the Garden Street Performing Arts Festival was truly a night to remember. Classical music featured on the program of the evening and was performed by world-renowned artists. The capacity crowd were enthralled – many people said that this was the best classical performance they had ever heard.

The first piece, played by the Garden Street Orchestra, was Beethovens “Moonlight Sonata”. This piece is internationally recognized as one of Beethovens finest works and it is often played by new pianists to impress their audience. However, we were treated to a far more impressive version than we would normally expect. Pianist, Joan Hawthorne, has been studying this piece for over 40 years and she has produced a rendition that can only be described as sublime.

The second act featured famous ballet dancer, Anna Bolenski, who danced beautifully to Tchaikovskys “Swan Lake”. She was accompanied by the Garden Street Ballet Company and it was clear that they have worked very hard on this piece.

The final act featured famous Opera singer, Giuseppe Pavone, who sang various arias from Rigoletto and La Traviata. This act seemed to go far too quickly although his rendition of

The latest classical music album by world-renowned pianist and composer Ludwig van Beethoven has just been released. Garden Street Performing Arts is proud to have been a part of the production process and to have sponsored this incredible performance.

Beethoven’s ninth symphony, which featured in the recording, was composed over two hundred years ago but the music is still as fresh and powerful as ever. The four soloists and choir were recorded at St John’s Cathedral in London in February of this year, under the direction of conductor Peter Maxwell Davies.

The original score features a chorus singing a passage from Friedrich Schiller’s Ode to Joy, which describes universal brotherhood. This theme is something that resonates with many people even today, and is one of the reasons why this work has remained so popular for so long.

We would like to congratulate everyone involved with this fantastic project, especially our very own Robert Carter who played trumpet on the recording!
