Today the area around Covent Garden Piazza is a popular entertainment venue, with over 30 street performers licensed to perform there.
The variety of acts reflects the cosmopolitan character of London – you may see mime artists, acrobats, fire-eaters, jugglers and musicians from all over Europe and beyond.

Welcome to the Street Artists & Performers of London: Covent Garden blog. This blog was created to showcase the amazing talented artists that perform everyday in the square.
The majority of performers are part of a very successful scheme run by the Covent Garden Market Authority. The scheme is called the Covent Garden Area Trust and each year it accepts applications from hopeful performers who want to be given a pitch in one of the most prestigious locations in London.
There are some performers who do not have a pitch. These include musicians, jugglers, mime artists, actors, fire-eaters, comedians and dancers who simply use their own personal space as their performance platform.
All these artists pay business rates (like rent) to the council in order to perform in public. There are also many other locations throughout London where performers perform and pay business rates (rent). This is a legal requirement in keeping with European law which supports freedom of expression through art and dance in public spaces.
