Street Performer Rankings:

Street performance or busking is the act of performing in public places for gratuities. In many countries the rewards are generally in the form of money but other gratuities such as food, drink or gifts may be given. Street performance dates back to antiquity. People engaging in this practice are called street performers or buskers (in Britain, Australia and Ireland). Performances are anything that people find entertaining. The term busking was first noted in the English language around the middle 1860s in Great Britain.

My question is this: what is the best place to be a street performer in the world? Where will my talent be appreciated most? Why are certain places better than others for street performers?

I created a survey to answer these questions. There were two main questions on the survey:

2. Why do you think that place is better than others for street performers?

I posted the survey on Facebook and asked people to email me their responses. I received responses from all over the world, from people who had lived abroad to people who travel often for work or pleasure. The results were fascinating and varied, but finally pointed me to one resounding conclusion: Pier 39 in San Francisco, California is by far THE BEST PLACE TO BE A STREET PERFORMER IN THE WORLD!
