It is a common misconception that robots are preprogrammed to perform tasks and moves. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Our street team begins with standard movements like popping, locking, waving and gliding; they then fill in the gaps with improvised movements.

Choosing which moves to keep and which ones to leave out can be difficult at times as our dancers have different preferences and styles. To compromise, we have them create a video demo and post it online for voting. After the votes come in, we select the top 3 videos with the most votes, then let our robot dancers decide which moves make it into the final performance.

This process may seem tedious, but we feel that it’s important for our dancers to express themselves freely through dance. At the end of the day, it’s not about how many views their video gets or how many people voted for their performance; it’s about creating something that they can be proud of.

One of the biggest challenges facing our street team is how to get our message out to the community in an effective, engaging way. Our robot street team has come up with a new way to do this by creating a viral dance video that they post online. The video is simple, but it’s getting hundreds of thousands of views and shares each day.

The dance video was created by our team as part of a month-long challenge to learn about the music industry. They were given just one week to come up with a concept for the video, which meant they had to do research on what kind of music was popular at the time and what kind of video would make people want to watch it.

After brainstorming ideas for two days, they came up with an idea: an animated robot dancing along with some catchy pop music playing in the background. Once they figured out how they wanted their robot character to move, they filmed it all using stop motion animation techniques and then edited it together into one short clip that lasts just over one minute long.

Once they posted their video online, it took off almost immediately: Within days there were already hundreds of thousands of views and shares! This is thanks in part to its catchy tune (which has become quite popular on YouTube) but

It’s great to be in the audience at a street performance. There’s something about the thrill of the moment, moving through the crowd, watching someone do their thing right in front of you that is almost too exciting to handle. But there’s another end of the spectrum, too: when you’re a performer out on the street, you never know what you might find.

For our first team-based video project this semester, we decided that we wanted to do an outdoor dance video. The problem was where and how we would choreograph it. We brainstormed several ideas but kept coming back to one idea: robots.

We decided that our group members would be robots, and we would dance robotically around campus. When we started videotaping on Friday, we had no idea what the outcome would look like. Since it was difficult to get everyone together during the day for filming, we decided to film everything ourselves and edit it all together later. The only problem was that each of us had different ideas about how our robot characters should act and move.

We started our street team dance rehearsals two weeks ago. The team was excited and eager to get started. We were even more excited to start performing!

The dance teacher’s name is Mrs. Smith. She has been helping us with the street dances for many years now.

We started out with a warm-up routine that lasted about 20 minutes. Then, we started the actual dance practice. We practiced lots of different moves and transitions from one move to another. After a couple hours, we were ready for some water and a break!

Two days later, we met up again for another day of dance practice. It went well.
