Theatre Under the Stars has been a summer tradition in Vancouver for over 50 years. During the summer months, summer camps, young professionals and theatre fans gather at Malkin Bowl to enjoy musicals under the stars.

Theatre Under the Stars is a great experience for all ages. Audiences should expect to see professional theatre in a casual atmosphere. If you are attending for the first time, here are some tips to get you ready for a night of musical theatre:

1. Plan ahead – TUTS offers great discounts for groups of 10 or more, so plan to go with friends and family. TUTS also offers an annual subscription program to ensure that you get great seats to every show!

2. Arrive Early – TUTS encourages audiences to arrive early and bring a picnic dinner. The park opens at 6:30PM and every night features pre-show entertainment beginning at 7:15PM.

3. Dress appropriately – since this is outdoor theatre, dress comfortably! Don’t forget bug spray, sunscreen and a sweater (evenings can get chilly). Since seating is bench style, you may want to bring something extra comfortable to sit on like pillows or lawn chairs.

4. Have fun! There is something special about watching

Theatre Under the Stars is an outdoor theatre experience where patrons are exposed to the elements. Therefore, be prepared for all types of weather. In case of inclement weather, shows will go on unless conditions become dangerous.

The Starlight Amphitheatre has a physical address of 1 Garden Street in the city of Toronto. The theatre is located at the corner of Garden Street and Bloor Street West, in high park.

Patrons are encouraged to arrive early as traffic and parking can be busy during peak seasons. There is no designated parking so please be aware of some neighbourhood restrictions and parking signs. Please do not park on private property or residential streets. Be respectful when walking through the residential neighbourhoods especially when arriving late to the show.

There are two entrances to the venue; one via Garden Street and one via Bloor Street West. Both entrances have ramps for accessibility. There is a seating area for patrons in wheelchairs near the front of house on both sides of the stage with companion seating available nearby.

You may be wondering what you should do to prepare for your first experience at Theatre Under the Stars. The following is a list of tips to help you make the most of your evening at Miller Outdoor Theatre.

Dress comfortably. There are no seats at Miller Outdoor Theatre, so you will want to dress for a picnic on the lawn. Seating is first-come, first-served, so we recommend you bring a blanket and/or low chairs that sit close to the ground. Chairs that sit higher may not be allowed.

Don’t forget your bug spray!

Arrive early. Lawn seating opens at 6:30 PM and fills up fast!

Try to get there by 7:40 PM so that you can see our pre-show entertainment before the show begins.

You can bring your own food! But leave the alcohol at home please; alcohol is not permitted on the grounds of Miller Outdoor Theatre.

It’s not just about the stars. It is about the weather, the bugs, and the dress code.

In order to make your night at open air theatre comfortable and memorable, we have put together a list of tips on what to expect, how to prepare and what to bring with you.

The weather:

Our performances are rain or shine events. Only in case of dangerous weather conditions (high winds, thunderstorms) will a performance be cancelled or delayed. In such cases we will attempt to notify our audience by e-mail so please be sure we have your correct contact information when ordering tickets online or by telephone. We recommend checking the weather forecast for Vancouver before leaving home so you can dress accordingly.

The bugs:

Many performances take place in Stanley Park, which is a natural habitat for mosquitoes and other insects. For this reason insect repellent is recommended for all evening performances. The Theatre Under The Stars box office sells insect repellent for $2 if you forget yours.

There is nothing more romantic than watching a great performance in the open air on a warm summer night. It’s a wonderful experience, but there are a few things you should keep in mind before attending this type of venue.

First, dress comfortably and casually. You may also want to bring a sweater or light jacket in case the evening gets chilly.

Second, be prepared for insects, especially mosquitoes. Bring along some insect repellent or purchase it on-site. Fireflies are also common during performances at outdoor venues and can be distracting if you aren’t expecting them!

Third, it is almost guaranteed that rain will fall at some point during the show. However, this usually only lasts for a few minutes and rarely requires the show to stop. If the event is “rain or shine”, it’s best to be prepared with an umbrella of poncho just in case it rains harder. If the weather looks questionable, check with theatre staff prior to purchasing tickets to see if they offer refunds if the show is cancelled due to inclement weather.

Fourth, leave early! Outdoor venues often have limited parking and there may be traffic delays on your way to the venue.

Whether you’re performing or watching a show in the open air, there are some things that you need to know before attending a show. We will share with you tips on what to wear, what to bring and what we recommend you leave at home.

Wear something comfortable. When it comes to wearing clothes, dress for the weather. If it’s hot out, wear shorts and/or short sleeves. If it’s chilly out, dress in layers so that you can keep warm as the sun sets.

Bring sunscreen. No matter what time of year it is, always be sure to bring sunscreen and apply liberally throughout the day, especially after swimming in the pool or if you sweat a lot when dancing.

Bring bug repellent. There are often bugs like mosquitoes that come out at night and can ruin your enjoyment of the show if they bite you. To prevent them from biting you, please be sure to bring some insect repellent and apply it before entering the theatre. Bring cash or credit card for concessions
