Tips for Getting Started in the Music Industry: A blog about starting a music career and making it your job.
So you want to be a musician, but you’re not sure if you have what it takes to be successful. You’ve seen your favorite artists playing stadiums and selling out arenas, but getting there can seem like an impossible dream. The good news is that it’s not impossible, and many of the world’s top performers will tell you that they weren’t born with any special talents. They just worked hard at their craft and never gave up on their dreams. In this article, we’ll look at some of the key steps in getting started in music to help you make your own dream come true.
Find Your Audience
The first thing you need to do when starting a music career is find your audience. This is not easy, so don’t expect it to happen overnight. Finding an audience requires patience and perseverance, but if you stick with it long enough, success will come more easily than you might think. The best way to find your audience is by going where they are already gathering: music forums, blogs, and websites dedicated to the genre of music that you play or write.
Once you have found these places, start posting comments on other
The music industry is not easy to get into. You need to be extremely dedicated and passionate about your craft. It’s a risky business that can be very rewarding, but it’s also a lot of work.
I’ve had many people ask me how they can get into the music industry. I’ve been in the business for almost 10 years now and I’m still learning new things every day. Below are some tips that I think will help you if you’re trying to start a career in the music industry:
1.) Play as many shows as possible. This may seem obvious, but playing live on stage is the best way to hone your craft. It will also help you get noticed by other musicians, managers, labels etc…
2.) Don’t quit your day job (at first). There is no shame in having a day job while pursuing something creative such as music or art. You need money to survive so why not continue working at your current job until you are able to support yourself solely on your music?
3.) Be prepared to make sacrifices. Nothing worth having comes easy and that includes making it in the music industry. If you want this bad enough then don’t let anything stand in your way! If you have kids then maybe move
If you want me to be completely honest with you, I think there is only one way to get started in the music industry. It’s a little thing called hard work.
I know, it sounds so simple, but I can assure you it’s true!
I recently wrote an article that discussed how hard work and passion will get you into the music industry. As opposed to just hard work alone, because I think if you are working hard at something that doesn’t necessarily interest or excite you, chances are that your efforts won’t last for very long.
But as I said before, if you’re passionate about a particular area of the music industry and are prepared to put in a lot of effort to reach your goals in that field, then your chances of success have just gone up dramatically!
In that article I also discussed how important it is for musicians and those who wish to work in the music industry to surround themselves with people who share the same vision as them.
So today, I decided to write an article which covers the fundamental steps that any musician or wannabe music industry worker should take if they wish to turn their passion into their career.
So let’s get right into it
You have to start somewhere. The key is taking the right steps to make sure you’re headed in the right direction. When you get started, you’ll have a lot of questions. Should I start a band? Should I focus on my solo project? Where do I go from here?
The best way to avoid getting into a rut or wasting time is to educate yourself about the music industry and learn from people who are successful in it. To help you get started, here are some resources that will help answer common questions and provide advice on how to launch your career.
It’s a pretty well-known fact that most people who start playing music professionally do so by playing the coffeehouse circuit. Not only is it a great way to get your feet wet and to break out of your shell, but it gets you used to performing in front of live audiences.
But what happens when you’re ready to take things to the next level? How can you continue getting in front of new, larger audiences? Street performances are one option.
Street performances are great for a number of reasons. For starters, they’re free; no money changes hands between performer and venue (well, except for tips). More importantly, though, street performances allow you to perform in front of more people than you would normally. While there may only be twenty or so people at a coffeehouse show, there could be hundreds or thousands walking by while you play on the street.
The ability to surprise yourself and others with your music is a gift. It’s something that should be guarded closely and reverently. It’s the greatest thing ever.
You probably know exactly what I mean, but I’ll try to explain: The best way I can describe it is that it’s like you’ve come across some magic beans. You don’t even know where they came from, but when you play them, out pops a beautiful song. A real gem! Not only does this song make you smile, but you are immediately filled with the feeling of pride because this song came from your brain-mouth-hands and it feels so good to share it with everyone.
All of a sudden, everyone starts dancing around the fire pit and singing along with you as you play your new song on guitar or piano or whatever instrument/computer/whatever you just happened to be playing when the magical beans were discovered.
Everything is awesome and beautiful in this new world of musical discovery! And then…
Suddenly, someone interrupts your musical reverie by asking “So where can we buy your album?”
Below you can find a list of some of the most popular street performers from around the world. Street performers have been around for hundreds of years and can be seen in nearly all major cities. You can see them on subways, in parks, or at specific venues created just for street performances. Some people even make a living as professional street performers, so it’s not as crazy as it may seem!
While some of these videos include famous artists who decided to surprise fans with a free performance, others are simply talented people sharing their gifts with anyone who will listen. Enjoy!
